Thule Easybase luggage carrier REVIEW

Postby rexgrant on Fri May 29, 2009 3:50 pm

Hi all
This is the product http://www.roofracks.co.uk/main/easybase.htm
Ordered yesterday at 1500hrs delivered today at 1100hrs.
And what a pleasure it was to assemble this unit it went together perfect,

When fitted I tested it by walking across it I weigh 122kg  The recommended nose weight for my car is 75 Kg so that is the maximum weight I can carry on the EasyBase.

For campers that do not have room to store a trailer I would say these are the ideal alternative. But I would recommend getting the Basket to make loading safer or build your own lightweight box.

This EasyBase is very strong and well made and I would recommend it to anyone
Regards
Rex.

That looks a really handy bit of kit Rex, i like the bag and the box as well, mind you, some of the areas round here you'd have to drive through at 70 mph or the tent would get nicked
The views expressed above are from a confused individual and may not represent what he thought he was saying.

The base looks good and solid, but the accesories are a bit on the pricey side.....

They are really sturdy when fitted, but the Alko ball leans back so causes the rack to lay back not level But once the Pennine as gone I will fit a standard tow ball it will just look better.

Hi
Update on this
They are really sturdy when fitted, but the Alko ball leans back so causes the rack to lay back not level But once the Pennine as gone I will fit a standard tow ball it will just look better.

My fault it leaned back I let it find its own level once the connecting screw started to tighten I should have lifted it up so it stayed level    , I never used to do those thing in my younger days
So I can now say they really are very good and will fit any tow ball as stated.
Regards
Rex.

I am intrigued by this one Rex, I know nothing about the strength and stability of tow bars but this seems to be defying the laws of physics! I'm sure it is 100% safe or they wouldn't be selling it (and sensible people like yourself wouldn't be using it!), but I think it would worry me too much using one!

I'd like to see one in the flesh! Very interesting! :)

Hi len
My first thoughts were similar to yours but then I thought of the makers experience of tow ball mounted Bike racks over many years,
Fitted to most family cars the maximum weight is restricted to the cars tow-ball weight usually between 50 to 75 Kg some of the 4 X 4 have tow ball limits as high as 150kg so this is what your maximum weight limit is,
but the unit itself as been tested to 600kg and when fitted,it is rock solid.
