how do you clean a tent?

Postby nicnacnoo on Wed May 13, 2009 9:16 pm

the bedrooms are dirty and the outside of the tent is just a mess, they are too big to fit in the washing machine but they need a clean.

They are just muddy from dirty feet standing on them when put them away or whatever and if your puttig the tent up on damp grass then the inside gets muddy.

Any ideas?

For the inside i would wait till tent is bone dry and use a dry thick brush to knock the dirt out .Once you have done that, a damp cloth should remove anything else. as for the out side,i think i would use a bit of bio wash liquid,in a spray, well watered down.Spray the mucky areas before a down poor.let the rain wash your tent.Just remember to treat your tent with water proofing after its dried out.But also a word of warning before you do this ,try it out in a small area first !In our climate you will have to get your timing right! Anyone got a mucky caravan ?visit your local poundshop ,look for a bottle of Elbow grease, its great for cleaning the outside of your caravan ,gets all that green off ,as well as kids finger marks ect.Test out in a small area first.elbow grease spray works best if allowed a few mins to work. You will never buy anything else when you have tried it.It takes the work out of a boring job.Other shops sell this product,if you keep an eye out for it.It comes in 2 colours, orange or lime. The orange is the best.

Nic can you get the inner in your bath? get it in there and do it the old fashioned way also make sure you rince properly and dry.

The outer as chris says use a brush on any mud once its dry and go to halfords there you can get some tent cleaner (Fenwicks Awning & Gazebo Cleaner 500ml)
treat it with this.
Please DONT use washing powder on your tent outter, if you cant get the cleaner just sponge the mud off with water. if your doing seams check they are still sealed once you have removed the mud.

hope your well

Hi Nic
Here is one I did earlier

Rex.
Camping is a special way of life, with a special kind of person who can make friends, even with other campers we have never met.

My friends, may the wind be always at your back.
