Footprints and ground sheets

Postby rexgrant on Tue May 05, 2009 10:26 am

Hi all
For a tent with a expensive SIG or ZIG it is always wise to use a footprint ground sheet, some tent makers make ones to fit specific tents and not all are made from strong puncture resistant,tear-proof material so you require to do you homework before you buy them.
Many campers recommend builders tarps for this job,But in my opinion and experience of builders tarps as groundsheets the are 100% inadequate.
The open weave is not designed to walk on and will puncture with the slightest stone or twig under the sheet. and once puntured will tear very easy. They will keep your SIG clean but will not keep it safe from damage.
Their is only one material for Footprint ground sheets I would recommend,I have tried and tested them for over Two years now with outstanding results.
These sheets are very strong and tear-proof you can cut them to any shape and size and will not fray, I will give you the link to the Flexi-liner,read what they say and and it is all true ,buy at the low price,as you will not get the insurance as you will not be using an underlay  .

Like Mark( he should know he used to work for them) always says the tent companys spent thousands of pound in making the ground sheet (SIG) material for the tent, by putting cheap tarps etc under your sig you are only making a pocket for the wet and the cold if you are going to use a footprint buy a proper one

We dont have a Sig so have not needed one but we have seen lots of camper with big puddles in between the tarp and the sig lol

Hi smap.
Like yourself I would never buy a tent with a SIG. Zigs are OK but in the very cold weather when it is raining and blowing a gale and the sites power goes down. I used to cook and heat with my 2KW parabolic LPG heater until the power returned .never slept with it on though and made a meal on my LPG stove without the worry of a gas leak and build up
That is why I was so chuffed when I got the chance to buy my Cabanon pyramid 4 no SIG. But I still use a Flexi-liner under the bedrooms that can be extended out into the sitting area if I think the rain may flood in.
Regards
Rex.
