ESVO Vrolie 240

The sun was shining yesterday afternoon, and what with me still in the camping frame of mind after our trip to cornwall, I couldn't resist taking my most recent tent purchase to the local park for a second trial pitch!

For those that don't know, ESVO are a Dutch manufacturer of quality canvas tents, and whilst not quite up the standard of De Waard or Karsten, they certainly hold there own and are easily equivalent to Cabanon in terms of build!

ESVO have a long history of tent manufacturing and currently offer a fine selection of pyramids, together with some interesting canvas ridge tents, tunnels and domes. They seem to be much more keen on the UK market than DW, as they have an English version of their website, and not only will they happily ship to the UK, delivery is free if you spend over 100 euros! Anyone interested in quality canvas tents should certainly take a look at their website: http://www.esvo-tenten.nl/en/producten/compleet-overzicht.html

Back to the Vrolie 240 - It's a lovely little tent that will comfortably sleep 2 with plenty of space for luggage, you can even just about stand up at its tallest point! We will be using it for last minute one nighters and touring, and hope to use it for the first time next weekend if the weather improves! Here are a couple of piccies...

That is another beauty of this tent! Very little energy and effort to pitch....perhaps not quite as quick and easy as a pop up, but it can easily be done in 5 mins - not bad considering the tent is bigger than it looks! :)

We camped in the little ESVO for the first time this weekend and am totally sold on it! Small enough to be cosy and a quick pitch, and big enough for two sleeping mats plus the same area again for living space. A good job it was a quick pitch, as while we were out a lady and her 3 young kids pitched literally 3 feet from us, despite there being plenty of room on the site :? OH was embarassed when I pulled all the pegs out and dragged the tent to a more peaceful location!!!

The ESVO is even more pretty than I first thought!...

Hi Len
http://rexgrant.webs.com/apps/photos/ph ... d=39463524 You could not use this tent for a camp without a tarp the one I have in use is to keep the tent cool and it worked well.
I must agree, this type of tents must be one of the easiest to erect.
The Pyramid four is now discontinued by Cabanon, and I agree with them the shape of the new guadaloupe at the rear gives more room for tall camper to sleep, and the extension awning is too low.and will now be used as a separate kitchen,I have converted a frame tent sun canopy to fit the porch to give rain and sun cover to sit out under, I still prefer the non SIG personally but can also see the benefits in really bad wet weather
Yes I would say for the young fit camping couple I would certainly recommend the Pyramid 4's replacement the guadaloupe for all round safe camping, but If I was seriously looking for a main tent for long term camping your Lepelaar with all the add'on must come very near the top of the list
The beauty of a field full of DeWaard tents must really be something to see :-) And this gives campers an Idea how easy they are to erect.

Hi Rex!

I know what you mean about not having a SIG, on dry ground it would be lovely to have the grass under your feet when inside the tent. My three pyramids all have SIGs and a non SIG pyramid would fit nicely into my collection, but the lack of a porch area on a P4 or P6 means I wouldn't consider one. There are quite a few reasonably priced Obelink pyramids which don't have a SIG so maybe i'll look at some of them! Having said that I fancy something a little different, maybe one of these

Although pitching the Lepelaar is a similar principle to the Guadeloupe, I must say that it is considerably more difficult! Not only does it have 3 times as many pegging points, the extra crossbars which run from the doorway to the main pole, mean that it can be quite fiddly too! After the simplicity of the Guadeloupe it is very hard work! The people in the video actually pitch their tent in the wrong order. Firstly you insert the door poles, pull the front of the tent up, add the porch poles and peg. Then you add the main pole and roof crossbars and peg all of those guys!

Cheers

Len

Hi again Len
Yes If I had known what I know now,I also would not have bought the P4 and would have gone for the Guadeloupe, But Val is not at all happy with the Pyramid tents She was looking at a cabanon frame tent similar to Casters Relum to go with the trailer tent when we eventually get one 8-)
When I try to explain the benefits of the pyramid design and safety, val as me beat all ends up ,she reminds me of all the storms we have been through in our last 3 cabanon Andorra's and what she says is true. But I will be able to use the P4 for the rest of this year  and then we shall have a rethink about the tents there are some older Karstens on Markplaats going very reasonable

We're taking the Lepelaar to Fforest Fields for 4 nights from Saturday. I must confess I looked at lastminute.com yesterday looking to escape somewhere warm and sunny, but in the end decide to stick with it! Hope the weather is OK for those of you that are camping this weekend (I would say good, but I think OK is the best we can expect!).
