Just to alter the direction of this thread a litlle, on our camp last week there was a couple in what my son refers to as a Hippy Van (VW) with an awning. My friend and I watched them with incredulity and no little amusement (though discretely, of course) for some time as they tried to attach a tunnel tent-style awning. After a while I thought I should offer assistance and it transpired that they had borrowed both van and awning from a friend and never used either before they came away; the awning had not even been out of its bag. At one point the awning was spread over the hardcore (basically stones/rubble) and one of them walked over it oblivious to the damage that would inevitably be done. In fairness to them the awning was not as intuitive to set up as a tunnel tent as it had braces, etc. but we had it set up after a short while.
I wonder how many people who, because of the recession, will be trying camping for the first time this season with poor quality tents from ebay, etc. and who will turn up to the campsite with all the equipment but totally unrehersed and unprepared (not to mention being unaware of what I call camping etiquette but could be termed "good manners and consideration"). We more experienced campers will have a choice to make: either lend a helping hand or get the beers, set up the chairs and take in the free entertainment!!

23rd-29th May:- Lanefoot Farm, Keswick. (Good but over-full)
27th-29th July:- Fieldhead Camp Site, Edale. (Good but not for us.)
3rd-7th August:- Studfold Farm, Lofthouse. (Wonderful.)
4th-5th September:- Mandale Farm, nr Bakewell. (Very good)
BUT THAT'S IT FOR THIS YEAR!!
