Camplet security

Postby rexgrant on Wed Aug 19, 2009 3:46 pm

Hi all
The Dutch as we all know can do things in double :shock:now the Danes are fitting the Camplet 10" steel wheels back to front so care must be taken when choosing a wheel clamp that is sold secure to suit the insurance companies and foil the thieves. [[ Update, you will also require locking wheel nuts with this clamp to suit the insurance companies.]]
This is the one I have found works first class The bulldog Euroclamp EM500SS but you must fit it like the wheel back to front the pointed side that normally fits through a wheel trim hole in the front, is fitted on the rear at the back of the wheel and the clamp fitted nearest the back end of the trailer
http://www.saundersonsecurity.co.uk/aca ... l#aEM4X4SS This company were very helpful and are the cheapest by far for this clamp.
When fitted this way the clamp is 100% secure and I can recommend it.

Now we do get a problem, the jockey wheel bracket is welded on right under the Alko AK7 hitch making it impossible to fit a bolt type hitch locks that are sold secure I bought the bulldog mini hit-lock that is recommended for my type of fit but I did not take this damned welded on bracket into consideration,So I have lost £15 on postage to get it sent back
See the photos on this link

You could grind off the bracket and replace it further back with a standard drill and bolt on bracket or use a small internal lock and a ball fit as well,This is the one I have ordered

but not acceptable by the insurance companies, I also use a motorbike chain lock fitted round the chassis and to a hy/duty eye bold concreted into our car space.
Hope this post may help new to Camplet owners with this type of welded on bracket.
Regards
Rex

PS My 2007 Camplet is fitted with a chain second coupling that are not recommended buy the MOT UK they should be replaced buy these
http://www.western-towing.co.uk/acatalo ... Parts.html
The bottom two items the second coupling cable and vehicle fixing plate.
The second coupling cable should be tight enough to stop any part of the draw bar from touching the road if the hitch parted from the ball.
Camping is a special way of life, with a special kind of person who can make friends, even with other campers we have never met.

My friends, may the wind be always at your back.
