Camping pods ???

Postby rexgrant on Thu Oct 29, 2009 3:56 pm

Hi all.
We have just returned from the funeral Of my daughter Tracey's father in law, we seem to spend more time at funerals these days than at camp I**l and another good family man says farewell C*y
Now about these camping pods springing up all over the UK's campsites, But these inland beach huts, really is not camping, and I am sure??that a true camper would never consider one of these oversize bee hives to a tent, Val and I have forsaken the tent for a 12' wide 36' long static by the sea in deep winter but I wonder what makes campsite owner think that tent campers prefer little wood huts to the smell and movement of a good tent, Don't they know the only reason a camper uses a small tent is so he can stay at a different place every night on his travels.
I can see people who can not be bothered or do not know how to pitch a camp use them, or maybe a trecker who arrives late may opt for one.
What do you really think about these pods L*l G**gle
Rex.

Yes Rex I looked at these when they first appeared and to be honest there is NO appeal in them at all. there are two hard bunks a little heater/cooker and lights you have to still take all your own gear so where is the point I do hope noone uses then thinking that is camping..lol

so sorry to hear about your loss...xxx

I actually quite like them,(sorry Rex and Daisy) Just my opinion of course but must admit I think they look kind of cosy, Like a snug log cabin without all the sofas, tvs, and other stuff we can live without.
Would be lovely in the winter all tucked up in one I think!
I would definietly consider it, I know its not proper camping but its something a little different. I always work on the theory to give things a go at least before writing it off
If someone forces you would you go to Benidorm on a package hol, or a little Pod in the lake district,?
I know which one for me would win, Benidorm obviously! (Just kiddin) L*l
Every day should be a camping day.

Hi Rex.
I quite like the idea for breaks during the winter months. I have been looking here http://www.woodclosepark.com/wigwams.htm and the prices for this year were very reasonable compared to some places. £12 PP P/N if i remember right.
It`s the convenience factor for me and the fact that your tent is likely to get rather dirty during the winter months. You don`t have the problem of having to clean it and dry it all when you get home, as we would have quite a problem if the weather is not good.
Just seems a good idea for a last minute break without having to worry about taking everything. All you need are sleeping bags and cooking stuff.
Just my thought.
ps. Would not really consider one during the summer months.

Martin.

Hi
They will certainly have their uses, especially for one night stops, but they are far too small for any length of time in my opinion, I don't think they are even hooked up to electric, are they, But if you try one ,let us know the ins and outs C**l @ £12 a night They may be worth a thought when the winter blues set in C*y

Hi all
Well you could keep warm but you would have to take a kitchen tent this time of year. No they are not for me I am afraid, A good cotton frame tent on one of the sites now offering all weather pitches would be the way I would go, This was my last winter setup and was warm and cosy under the double skin.
http://rexgrant.webs.com/apps/photos/al ... id=3622782
and a few more with another Andorra at Minehead in Sept not quite winter but September can get cold on top of North Hill Minehead
http://rexgrant.webs.com/apps/photos/al ... id=3987717
But I am getting soft in my old age C*y abut still loyal to the wonderful tents Cabanon make rspt
But we all know what suits one dose not necessary suit another, C**l
Regards
Rex.

I may try one of the pods here for a night ,over the winter months ....http://www.grizedale-camping.co.uk/?Home
Site says it's open all year
Was trying to squeeze a weekend in there this year but never managed it , If we like it ,one to take a tent to next year

On the edge of Grizedale forest , so good for walking , pony trekking from the site ( which the young'un loves) , The Eagles Head pub just down the road and campfires are allowed

Sounds alright to me ,may give it a go
