Brynawelon Caravan and Camping Park, Llandysul, Cardigan

Brilliant - another great campsite run by wonderful, friendly owners.

Brynawelon is very easy to find as it's right off the coast road (the main road) about 10 miles before Cardigan.

When you arrive you ring the bell and reception and either Liz or Paul will come out to greet you and then personally show you where your pitch is and where everything is around the park.

They are both wonderfully friendly and a mine of information on the area - as is Liz's mum who was great too.

The site has 2 camping fields - both level. There are pitches for both caravans (quite a few are regulars with seasonal pitches) and tents (MH, TT and FC). The area to the left has tent pitching in the middle, the area to the right has tent pitches at the bottom end and in the middle. I think all are ehu (but cold be wrong).

The ehu is 16 amp so no problems with heaters etc

You can see the sea from the site.

FACILITIES (all in lovely wooden chalet type buildings that blend in beautifully)

Reception - lots of useful info regarding things to do in the surrounding areas. A mini tourist information point really. Book exchange here also as well as all the relevant certificates etc and photographs of the site as it has progressed since Liz and Paul took over. Places to sit and browse the info too.

Ktichen/Wash up/Laundry - right next to reception. There are 2 wash up sinks with draining boards and plenty of hot water. The is a washing machine (3x£1 coins), a spin dryer, washing sink and tumble dryer (3x50p /60mins).

There is also a freezer, fridge, kettle, microwave, toaster, iron and ironing board. No charge for any of these. A table and 4 chairs are also here for your use.

Toilets/Showers (all heated)

Ladies - 2 toilets, 2 cubicles with toilet, shower and basin with mirror above, 2 shower cubicles, 2 wash basins and a hand dryer. Soap dispensers above the hand basins and although no stool in the showers each does have a hook on the back of the door and a movable double hook you can have over the door or shower cubicle.

A mop and bucket is provided to clean down after yourself - and I wish everyone would use it!

Gents - OH informs me there are toilets, shower/toilet/basin and 2 other shower cubicles.

There is also a family/disabled access bathroom with a wonderfully big shower, loads of room (and hand hold bars etc), toilet and basin and baby changing unit.

We never had to queue for a shower or the toilet once in the whole week we were there and the site was just about full most of the time.

There are 2 Chemical disposal points and water taps. Drinking water points. Recycling facilities. One of those drive over disposal points for motor homes to use too.

Games Room - for the children with a table football and a couple of other things (these you have to pay for) and a TV and sofa.

Sauna- just around the corner from the games room is a Sauna. We didn't use it so can't say any more about it.

Dog Walk Area - a small area but the road the site is on is a country road so plenty of dog walking up and down it.

Children's Playground - nice area for the children and it is very well used by them (well it was the week we were there)

The site has a no noise after 10.30pm rule and apart from a few cows mooing (no often) and them blooming collared doves (they get everywhere) then there wasn't any noise. At 10pm the play park is 'closed' and children come 'home'

WIFI - is available. Cards are sold by the day, 3 days, week etc.

THINGS TO DO

As it only rained the day we arrived, showers the 2nd day and the day we left I'm afraid we didn't do anything other than go to the beach.

We ventured into Cardigan. Checked out a Dolphin boat trip (£22 adult and £15(?) a child for and hour and a half) but we didn't take the trip!

There are many 'wet day' things to do around and about and Liz or Paul or the leaflets in reception will give you ideas of what to do.Other campers were also a good source of information and a good way to break the ice and get chatting to people.

We spent a day on Penbryn Beach- 2 miles down the road). It is a long sandy beach which we found a little gritty. You ge to a car park (National Trust) but if you carry on there is a turnign circle at the end of the road where you can drop off all your 'stuff' and then go back up the hill to the car park. There is a filed that is the overflow car park. Public toilets and a cafe/shop selling body boards, wet suits, bucket and spade etc.

The rest of the time we went on Llangranog Beach which was about 3 miles away. This is 2 coves and excellent for body boarding. There is a Lifeguard presence on this beach. Fish and chip shop, General Stores, Pub, another pub and a rather nice cafe all by the beach also public toilets.

The roads are country roads and in places very narrow and there are a couple of 90 degree corners down the road to this beach. There is also a park and ride service to the beach here- run on a voluntary contribution basis (suggested £1 return for adults). You can park in the field and walk down to the beach but coming up the hill on the way back may be too much for some.

There is a parking area right at the beach but it fill up quickly and the streets are soooo narrow it's really not worth driving down there.

There is also a small Art Gallery with some really beautiful paintings.

On the walk to the beach you pass a little garden created by the local children's art club - worth a stop and see and a little donation in the box.

There are a number (Paul reckoned about 9 or 10) of beaches within 10 miles of the site - something for everyone.

SHOPS/PROVISIONS

Right at the road end for Llangranog Beach, Brynhoffant (?)is a petrol station with a Londis shop - large and well stocked with just about everything you would want.

There is also a pub here

There are lots of hills in this part of Wales - especially on the roads up and down to the beaches.

Turn to wards Cardigan from the site and there is a small antique type shop on the right. A little further is a n Army surplus store selling everything camping related, walking/outdoors stuff and it goes on for ever and ever.

Further towards Cardigan on the right is a Farm Shop which sells all sorts of farm produce - eggs, milk, fruit and veg, ice-creams, Welsh cheese and loads an loads more. Pricey, but then Farm Shops always are and it's not always necessarily local produce.

There is a Rugby Club (?) on the right which has a car boot sale every Saturday morning.

Tesco and Focus are at the near end of Cardigan and easy to get to with out going into the town itself. Go to the roundabout and then back on yourself.

Cardigan also has a Somerfields (where we parked at the Harbour (£1.70 for a days parking)and an Aldi. It has all the usual mix of high street and individual shops and cafes. Some narrow streets and a bit of traffic congestion.

All in all I would thoroughly recommend you visit this site. We will be going back as there is so much to see and do and everything was perfect for us.

At the time of our stay - August 2009 - we paid £5 per adult, £3 per child (2-15) and £2.50 ehu per night so very good value for money.

The children really had a great time and asked 'can we could stay longer and if not please please please could we come back again' as 'this site is brilliant'- what more could you want :0)
