Bell tents and Pyramid tents.

Postby rexgrant on Sat Apr 18, 2009 10:32 am

Hi
Please note these posts are not recommendation links are used to show the type. and all these types of tents a very easy to errect.
I think it is recognized in the camping circle, that this type of family tent is the most wind resistant. They are usually made from cotton or poly cotton and one company I know of makes some from High quality synthetic material.
The bell tent, the traditional design of a bell tent gives first class deflection of the wind 360Deg, walls that can be rolled up in hot weather and without doubt will shed snow and rain far better than all other tent made,
But as one disadvantage these days for family camping ,it as no porch and the door are tied with tapes, no Zips or fitted ground sheet.

But today things have changed Tentipi have made a bell tent/tipi that is designed to use a open fire or log burner in, has a specially designed inner tent with SIG some are light enough to back pack, take a look at this amazing bell tent http://www.tauntonleisure.com/brand/ten ... FQod1R1oFw Nice safe tent.

the 100% cotton bell tent with small porch and fitted groundsheets
http://www.belltent.co.uk/main2.htm this type of modern bell tent is more family friendly but really require an additional unit to cook under or in. As do the ones above.

Now we will move on to the Pyramid tents, The best and I agree to that is the DeWaard here is a choice http://translate.google.com/translate?h ... nten.nl%2F

http://www.dewaardtenten.nl/tenten.html
Click the boxes under the tents to see the extras that go on the tents
Here is my favorite two man DeWaard in full sale http://www.dewaardtenten.nl/stormvogel/ ... uifel.html
Sorry in English http://translate.google.com/translate?h ... uifel.html

Alternately cabanon make a range of very good pyramid tents but are let down by a limited porch facility and require a large Tarp to make them family friendly.
The dutch also have other cheaper but no less good quality pyramid type of tents EVSO comes to mind you will find all 4 cabanon pyramid 2009 on this link http://www.theforestcampingcentre.com/c ... =24&page=1
We have got a new member who uses both the DeWaard and the Cabanon ,we may be able to temp him on to give us a first hand review of both types.

The latest in bell tent design is by Outwell their new Lake tipi this tent looks very family friendly and lends itself well to a tarp over the porch for cooking under

http://www.yeomansoutdoors.co.uk/produc ... tno=536318
If Chief Sitting Bull had one of these he would have had to become a Muslim to legally accommodate all the squaws that would want to move in.

Regards
Rex.

PS We have just paid for the smallest cabanon pyramid ,we are just hoping it arrives

Hi Len.
Thank you The only tents we can truly recommend are the one we use our-self
The post you typed out probably went were the one you answered about me elsewhere
I used your picture in your garden to convince My Val that pyramids are worth having ,We are waiting and hoping that we receive our new to us Cabanon Noumea £150 delivered We have now given all our larger cabanon away to family. But the little Noumea with my big tarp pegged and poled out like a Varioluifel .if all goes well I will be practicing a set up in my daughter garden next week .all I have to do is remember the camera. But we do have the Pennine Pullman Half -a-tent for long stays.
Regards
Rex. :D

Hi Daisy
Is that the outwell Indian lake, I recon it is the safest tent outwell make and is certainly eye catching, You will certainly have to wear a feather in you hair to camp in that tepi  or is it the Vango tepi, vango do make fine tents but that one should be called a volcano tent

Hi Daisy ,
Is that the Outwell your talking about ? Or the Vango tipi's ?
Don't forget members of NW Campers get discount at Kendal camping center , that could save you some money , a significant amount if it's the outwell Indian lake your talking about .

They sell the vango tipi's too .

Just a thought

Hi all
Val and I have joined the Pyramid tent society with the purchase of a Pyramid 4 from eBay, £240 but with that we got a two meter framed porch made for the P4 will save using my tarps and looks just the ticket.
Personally I prefer not to have a SIG so we can remove the oversize Ground sheet in hot weather or fold it back and lift the tent walls to let the breeze pass through, and there is no worry if we decide to warm the tent with LPG even if it should leak.
This tent we have bought is for short stays at special sites were our folding camper is two big or not accepted and will allow us to just load the car and go up North more often.
Regards
Rex.

Thank you Len
The extended awning makes a big difference for cooking and chilling out.
And yes I am looking forward to the pleasure that only we campers understand ,and once again camping out of the car, trailer not required :D

Hi grey camper
Welcome to NWCampers the friendly site.
Yes those tents are excellent value,I am not sure were the Canvas is made and what the quality is, but knowing the Dutch, I recon it will be very good,
here is your link in English http://translate.google.com/translate?h ... 2Fhome.asp .
Keep us informed please , obelink are very accessible and affordable for a breathable tent.
Regards
Rex
